Welcome to a wonderful new semester at Starmount High School! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with SHS students. I am from Yadkin County, and I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s in English. I also trained through UNC Chapel Hill's Journalism program to teach the county's Virtual Academy Introduction to Journalism course. Lastly, I have been Springboard and Collegeboard trained to teach AP 10th and 11th grades.
About the Class
This year, I am teaching 10th grade, 11th grade, and AP Language and Composition.
- The English II course (10th) delves into a study of world literature and requires an EOC at the end of the semester. This exam covers comprehension in reading of literary texts and informational texts as well as writing and language skills.
- The English III course (11th) entails a deeper study of American texts and the cultural, social, and historical contexts; the course requires a NCFE exam, similar to the EOC but the exam contains less written response questions.
- AP Language and Composition is a course in which students are able to attain college credit. Please see the AP College Board site for detailed more information.
